Does anyone remember the time long ago when a Libyan Federal Police Major caused some trouble one dark night at Benina Airport when he stopped a London bound EAAC Comet from starting engines and had the passengers removed from their seats and stuck in the passenger lounge. He demanded a sight of the aircraft logbook to see if it had been to Israel. There was no such document available. He had taken up residence in the flight deck in the captain’s seat. I was the Englishman who had to talk him out of the aircraft; a long and stressful task which ended when I promised to get him a parrot. He and I were under the impression that parrots could be found in Kenya. Please excuse my ignorance in that matter. It served its purpose. Dawn was braking when he left, and the passengers were allowed to re-join the aircraft.
