Seconded from the RAF to BOAC along with five other pilots from Kenya my Dad flew out one of the first six Dragon Rapides to Nairobi. I was born the same year scheduled services started. He flew these, Doves, Lodestars and DC3's before leaving to Sabena in the Congo. I did my interview, and a short flight in a DC3 with Capt Eddie Parker in early1974, but due to a decision to hire only indigenous citizens, entry was delayed a year. I flew the same DC3's as dad, checked out by Eddie who had flown with Dad as a radio operator. Saw the second retirement of the DC3's and had just been posted to the VC10 fleet and doing training when the Airline ceased operations. Best flying club in the world.
